(This is an assignment that I did for my Creative Writing class. I had to take a picture from somewhere and make a story up about it. I found a picture in a magazine that was a picture of a few girls dressed up for a Prom. I had to "detourn found text". This story is COMPLETELY FICTIONAL. I just MADE IT UP.)
THE MOST REMARKABLE NIGHT
June 10th, 2004. The most remarkable night of my life. Long flowing dresses. Hot guys in fancy tuxedos. Boutiques of long stemmed roses, beautiful daisies, and white lilies. Large varieties of fancy jewelry decorating girls’ necks, wrists, and ears. Tons of music, food, and gorgeous decorations. Fun, friends, dancing, and more fun. Senior Prom night. The highlight of every girl’s high school years.
My name is Paula Scott and yesterday was the special day. My Senior Prom was everything I had anticipated and more. For a whole month leading up to Prom night, I was busy obsessing over what that night would be like. Over the past month, I had to worry about getting a date for Prom, finding the perfect dress at a reasonable price, convincing my parents that I was old enough to go to the dance with a guy, and figuring out who I would have do my nails and makeup, so that they would come out perfectly. In a way, a month seemed like an eternity to wait, but at the same time, it seemed to fly by.
The number one priority on my list was to find myself a date because if I did not have a date for Prom, I might as well just not go at all. I did not want to go to Prom with just a group of close friends and I certainly did not want to show up at Prom alone, like a loser. I am close friends with many different guys and I believe that any of them would have made a great date. Some of my guy friends had girlfriends that they were taking to Prom, and the guys who did not, either asked a girl to go with them or decided not to go at all. I am sure that I could have asked one of my friends to go with me to Prom, but I wanted to go with someone really special. I felt that going with someone special would help complete my dream of having the best night ever.
I tried to remain confident as I went up to my dream guy and asked him whether he would like to go to Prom with me. I had talked to him occasionally so it wasn’t like he didn’t have any clue as to whom I was or any idea what I was like. To my surprise and jubilation, he actually agreed to go with me! I was relieved because the hardest part of the whole ordeal was over with.
Now that I had a date to Prom, I set to work looking everywhere for the perfect dress. This was my favorite part. Almost as much fun as Prom itself! Well, maybe not quite. I looked through many different department stores and saw so many different types of dresses that I adored that it was hard for me to pick out just one. I saw dresses adorned with lots of lace and bows. Dresses that were way too big for me. Dresses that were made for very petite girls. Eventually I found a dress in Macy’s department store that looked perfect and it was just the right size for me! It was a long black backless halter dress that looked fairly plain and simple except for the large diamond brooch in the front. A strip of fabric that started from the brooch and wrapped around the back of my neck and attached to the brooch again was all that held the dress up. It was very simple, but also beautiful at the same time. My date was going to love it! The dress was perfect. Lastly, I went shopping for black high-heeled shoes to match my dress, which were very easy to find.
When the night of Prom finally arrived, I gave myself a good two hours to get ready before my date arrived at my house to escort me to Prom. First, I put my dress on. Then, I teased my hair up into a neat bun. Next, I applied blush, mascara, eyeliner, and lipstick to my face. Lastly, I put my diamond earrings on and I was ready for Prom!
My date arrived at 6:45PM in a beautiful black Limo. The ride to Prom was magnificent. The Limo was beautiful and, to my surprise, my date and I were able to have a steady conversation with each other all the way there. My date escorted me into Prom and when I saw all of the beautiful decorations, heard the music playing, and saw all of my friends and classmates dressed so glamorously I was absolutely in awe. Right then, the butterflies that I had had in my stomach from my anticipation, disappeared. I knew this was going to be the most remarkable night ever. The gymnasium had a silver theme to it. There were large bunches of silver balloons weighted down on the floor all around the edges of the gym. The walls were decorated with silver streamers and the floor had a layer of shiny silver paper all over it. Even the stage where the band played was silver.
The music was awesome! My date and I danced together for practically the whole entire night. The only time we stopped dancing was when we sat down for dinner for about an hour. During dinner I chatted with two of my best friends who were eating with me. I enjoyed seeing what they looked like in their dresses. One of my friends was wearing a long bright red dress with a low-cut neck and some ruffles going down the front. Frankly, I thought the dress was ugly. She also wore a very long necklace with red pearls on it. I did not like this piece of jewelry very much either. The only things I liked about the way she looked was the way her hairdo came out and the way her makeup was applied, but I did not tell her this because I did not want to be rude and insult her. My other friend had on a long white dress with a see-through flower print in the back where her legs were. She wore a large diamond bracelet and a thick diamond necklace that matched her outfit perfectly. She looked really pretty.
All in all, my Prom night was the most remarkable night of my life. I had so, so much fun! I made sure to take millions of pictures throughout the night, so that I could remember every moment. I wanted to be able to look back at the pictures months and even years later and, in a way, be able to relive that magnificent night.
